Ridgewood PTA 2008 Science Fair May 29th & May 30th

GET READY TO EXPERIMENT!

Ridgewood Students,

It is time to start your child thinking about doing a project or experiment for the Ridgewood PTA 2008 Science Fair! Decide on a project and get your registration form in to your teacher.  Ridgewood scientists from Kindergarten through 6th grade are encouraged to take part in this event to be held May 29th & 30th.  On May 29th there will be a Science Fair Open House in the evening and on May 30th each of the classes will be taking tours of the displays.

Are you interested, but not sure yet what you are going to do? Just mark down that you are "not sure yet" and turn your form in anyway.  The deadline to turn in your permission form is Monday, May 12th.

Do you need an idea for a project? Then, checkout the Ridgewood PTA links and resources web page for a great list of website resources to help get your child started.

Need a display board? Bartell's has them available in white and multi-color for only $4.99 plus tax.

The Science Fair committee is also planning two other competitions to coincide with the Science Fair Open House.  They are the return of the very popular Egg Drop Contest and our fourth annual Pop Bottle Rocket Launch!!  Watch kid mail for more information about both of these contests.

For more information or to volunteer to help, call or e-mail Kim or Andrew Shell at 253-350-5344 or kimaries@gmail.com.

For each project a student must:

  1. Turn in a completed permission slip/application by May 12th.
  2. Obtain a copy of the science fair information packet. Please see the K-2 grade packet and the 3-6 grade packet.  If you need a paper copy, you can indicate that on the permission form and one will be given to you.
  3. Create a display, which includes a display board.
  4. Present the project to a Science Fair committee member on May 29th. (Judging is part of the fair but is optional.)

How judging will take place:

A science committee member will review each project. Each student participant will be asked a few questions about the project during school hours. These questions will be presented in an informal and positive manner and will last a few minutes. Please see the designated science award categories. The students are encouraged to participate in the judging aspect of the fair. ALL PARTICIPANTS ENTERING A PROJECT, regardless of judging, will be recognized for their achievements on May 31st . On May 31st there will be a Science Fair Open House in the evening. On June 1st the individual classes will tour the displays.
